Is it legal to download mixtapes from DownloadAMixtape.com?
Yes its 100% legal, all mixtapes on DAM are free promo mixtapes distributed by artists or DJ’s for promotional purposes. We also hold a PRS license for streaming and downloading so artists will get paid through PRS for having their material on our website.

If you feel a mixtape is copyrighted and is available for download on the site you can notify us by emailing info@downloadamixtape.com, if it is found to be copyrighted material it will be taken down immediately.

DAM Exclusive
A DAM exclusive is a mixtape that you wont find anywhere else, not only will you not find it anywhere else but downloading it will not count against your download limit! You will need to be a registered user before you can download our exclusive mixtapes, signing up is quick and easy so why not join us?

How often is the site updated?
The site is updated with new mixtapes every day, because we allow users to upload their own material mixtapes are constantly being added to the site.

Do you have to pay to use the site?
Everything on the site is free to use, you can download, upload, listen and use any other features on the site for nothing! There are limits but we will be introducing premium accounts soon which will give you the option to have no limits and even more features.

How do I change my profile, add pictures etc?
Once you register you will have a profile on DAM, where everything will be set to default. To change this go to your dashboard and click on ‘profile’> ‘your profile’, here you can change various things like your display name, your picture and will also allow you to put in links for your website or any other pages you have online.

If you have an artist account you’ll be able to put in all your social networking links, which will allow people to quickly access them when they look at your page.

Downloading and Listening

Do I have to be registered to use the site?
You have to be registered and signed in to the site to download, comment on or to save mixtapes to your ‘record bag’.
You can still listen to mixtapes without being signed in or registered.

Are there limits on how many mixtapes you can download?
Yes, as a registered member you’re able to download 2 full mixtape within a 24 hour period and if you reach this limit you can still stream as many mixtapes as you wish. As a premium account member you can download as many mixtapes as you like.

How do i download mixtapes?
To download simply find the mixtape you’re looking for, you can either do this by browsing genres we have available or by using a search option if you know exactly what you’re looking for, then click on the mixtape you want to download. This will take you to that mixtapes page which will give you info on the mixtape including tracklisting. Underneath the mixtapes description there will be a box that if you’re signed in will say, ‘Click Here To Download Mixtape’, click on this and it will give you the link which will download your selected mixtape directly.

To download individual tracks click on the downward pointing arrow next to the individual track you wish to download.

How do i listen to mixtapes?
Similar to how to download but on the mixtape page you select the play mixtape option under the mixtape image, this opens up a pop player where you can skip tracks, change the volume or pause the song. You can also click on the tracks on the tracklist to start playing the mixtape from the track you wish.

How long does it take to download a mixtape?
This all depends on how quick your internet connection is, but compared to other hosting sites DAM is one of the fastest.

What is a ‘Record Bag’?
A record bag on DownloadAMixtape.com is a feature which lets you save your favourite mixtapes onto your account so you don’t need to search for them again when you want to listen to them. You have to be signed in to use this feature.

To save mixtapes to your record bag simply go to the mixtape page of the mixtape you want to save. Underneath the mixtape cover there will be a box that says ‘Add To Record Bag’, click on this and your selected mixtape will now appear in your record bag.

To access your record bag click on ‘Record Bag’ which is one of the options on the top navigation bar on the homepage. Here you can select your mixtape to listen to or remove any mixtapes you don’t want in your record bag anymore.

Can I embed the player to my blog or website?
Yes. You can embed the player to play whatever mixtape you wish from downloadamixtape.com. The codes allow you to put the player directly into the body of your website.

To get the embed codes select the mixtape you wish to embed, go to the mixtape page and then just above the tracklisting there will be an option to ‘embed’, click on this.

This opens up four different codes:

Player Embed Code
Using this code you can embed the DAM audio player directly into your website or blog.

Link Code
Placing this link onto your website or blog will create a link back to this mixtape on DAM.

Image Link Code
Placing this code on your website or blog will display the mixtape cover and create a link back to the mixtape on DAM.

Forum Link Code
This code is the same as the Link Code above, the only difference is that the link is wrapped in bbcode tags so it can be pasted onto forums supporting bbcode.

Uploading Mixtapes

How do you upload mixtapes to DownloadAMixtape.com?
To upload mixtapes you need an approved artist account. To get this you first need a normal user account, once you have this you can apply for an ‘Artist’ account which gives you extra privileges to upload mixtapes. To apply for this simply go into your account admin then click on ‘Artist Signup – > Request Account’. You will have to give some info and links on who you are and what you’ve done, this is to avoid people abusing the site.

Your request should be approved within a couple of hours (business days), once approved all you need to do is click the ‘Dashboard’ link in the right-hand-column control panel, then use the ‘Mixtape’ tools in the dashboard to create your mixtape, upload the tracks and begin sharing. Your mixtape can be on the site within a couple of minutes.

Note: The uploading tools used by DAM require flash and the latest version of your browser, using an up-to-date browser means we can make your experience as smooth and crisp as possible. If you have any problems with the tools and services on DAM please try updating your browser if you haven’t done so already.

Once you have an artist account you need to go to your admin area then ‘Mixtapes – > Add mixtape’. This takes you a page to fill in the title, a description and then select the genre.

Once you’ve done this select ‘add mix’, this will let you know if you’ve successfully added the mixtape if you have you get the option to click through and add tracks and artwork.

To add tracks simply go to the mixtape you want to add the tracks to and select ‘upload tracks’, here you’ll be able to browse your computer for the tracks you want to upload, once you have selected all of them click ‘upload’ and it will begin uploading all the tracks in the order you have selected them. If you wish to delete any you can do this by clicking the cross on the track before it has been uploaded, you can also delete tracks in the main mixtape page.
Once you have completed uploading your mixtape click on ‘make live’ to make it available on the site.

How do i upload artwork?
To upload artwork to your mixtape just click on ‘mixtapes’ in the admin area and then click ‘upload artwork’, this will enable you to browse your computer for the artwork you wish to use. Make sure the artwork you upload is square, the system will resize it to 150 x 150 so if the image is a rectangle shape it may look distorted.

For better results you should adjust the image size to 150×150 before you upload so that the quality of the cover will remain in tact.
I dont want my mixtape to be downloaded can i set it so it can only be listened to?
Yes, if you want to take away the option of users to download your mixtape and only be able to listen to it simply go to ‘mixtapes’ in the admin area, find the mixtape you want to do this for and the click ‘dloads on/off’. If downloads are off then there will be no option on the main site to download your mixtape, people will only be able to listen to it.

What if the genre of my mixtape is not listed?
Its very important when uploading your mixtape that it goes into the right category, this will give you the maximum amount of plays because people will be able to find your mixtape very easily.

If your desired genre isnt listed you can request it by going to the ‘add mixtape’ section on the dashboard, then clicking underneath where it says ‘add mixtape’, this will then let you fill in whatever genre you like, its not guaranteed that it will be accepted but we will consider every submission.

Are there limits on how many mixtapes i can upload?
You can upload as many mixtapes as you like as long as you either own the copyright or have permission from the owner of the copyright to post it up on the internet.

How can i get my mixtape featured or blogged about on DAM?
We offer various ways to promote your mixtape on DAM, including featured spots where your mixtape will be listed at the top of the site regardless of listens.
